With this project, I wanted to use my cad and fabrication skills to make an updated hi-fi version of the classic entertainment console record player found in mid-century homes.
This would have a clean and minimal aesthetic that leaned on the edge profile of baltic birch as a design element. It would take multiple sheets and use bendy-board for a cabinet back, allowing records pushed back into their cubbies to align with the top curve profile for a cleaner look.
I cut the major panels on the CNC router at work, using the table saw to cut the smaller divider pieces and bendy-board.
I wish I tested some of these design decisions before completing the console, I don't use or like that Garrard unit the center of the tabletop was designed for, meaning I will have to come up with some sort of solution for that space that allows me to play stereo records and a good synchronous speed. This might be the impetus of a separate turntable project, if I can come up with a satisfactory enough design to replace the audio-technica unit I have sitting on top of the plinth spot right now.
